veer – spiritual life
June 2, 2008
the essence of any spiritual life is to realize that your nature is not of the physical but of something greater. there are several ways this is apparent to us in daily life, but largely ignored by us. here are some observations to this end to think about:
1 – as we get older, our experience of “i” stays the same, but our body gets older and begins to break down. no one will argue that they are still themselves, despite the constant change of the body.
2 – when we talk about someone’s body, we discuss it as separate from that person. for instance “she has a great body”. the body is treated as a quality of “she” and not her herself. we instinctively know that me and my body are not the same thing.
3 – when we dream, our sense of presence in the dream is more often than not, independent of our physical body. we can drift or snap from scene to scene without physical limitation. where does that notion come from since it cannot be an experience that our brain is drawing upon?
